I have found episode 6 and 7 - file formats a great podcast and more to what I can relate to because file formats is what I deal with on a daily. I am on the in-house Prepress side of our magazines. I work with our in-house designers and outside customers to produce native Quark files and or PDF/X-1a files which are place in our QuarkXPress 6.5 magazine printer spread layouts.
Is there a web site that gives a simplified description for making PDF files for press?
I find that most PDF files are not PDF/X-1a compliant so we re-save them through Acrobat 6 Pro as .eps files which work 90% of the time but there is 10% problem files that I either re-save as a 600dpi PhotoShop .tif file or try to get the customer to understand the complexities of PDF/X-1a files.
Thanks for your Prepress Podcast.
