February Graphic Arts Monthly Is Printed on KODAK NEXPRESS S3000 Digital Production Color Press

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Feb. 12—The photo on the cover of the February issue of Graphic Arts Monthly (GAM) looks so real, you want to reach out and touch it. When you do, it just might surprise you. The editors of GAM, one of the graphic communications industry’s leading trade publications, selected the KODAK NEXPRESS S3000 Digital Production Color Press to print the magazine’s February 2008 cover, which includes extensive coverage of the major digital printing trade show, AIIM/On Demand.

The GAM issue features a striking photograph of an apricot on the cover, requiring a shade of orange that can be difficult for digital presses to reproduce. The NEXPRESS S3000 Press has a larger color gamut than traditional offset-based SWOP specifications, so this vibrant orange color was easily and accurately printed. A custom URL, www.graphics.kodak.com/gam, was set up especially for GAM readers.

Kodak used the five-color configuration and the fifth imaging unit for the 70,000 GAM print run, making it possible to use Kodak’s intelligent coating solution, which adds a protective coating of KODAK NEXPRESS Clear Dry Ink. This is particularly important for a magazine in wide distribution, as the coating helps reduce damage caused by finishing and bulk mailing equipment. To enhance the photo, Kodak used the intelligent coating process to create a “fuzz” effect on the apricot, adding extra depth that readers can feel.
